Magazine Street
I had so much fun last week at Magazine Street, an event gathering independent publishers, writers, illustrators, designers, printers, branding and communication specialists, in a celebration of all things editorial.
And I came home with treasures!
Pictured below, the glorious Flow magazine, published by wonderful speaker Irene Smit. It’s packed with absorbing features, luscious illustrations like this cover by Roeqiya Fris, and – WRAPPING PAPER! 😍
And We Are Makers, a gentle celebration of craftsmanship. Featuring interviews with skilled makers around the world, Edition Fifteen tells fascinating stories of glassblowing, paint making, intricate metalwork, porcelain, tatami mats, sign-writing for traditional fairground rides… It’s beautifully designed, with gorgeous photography.
(Also pictured, some wee greetings cards from the spectacular Mag Street goody bag. By me!)
Left the event feeling ridiculously positive. I learned such a lot from a brilliant range of speakers, many of whom are shaping magazine brands with print at their core – and making them pay. Impossible to pick a favourite but I came away with two key messages.
1. Making stuff you love is the best way to attract an audience.
2. PRINT STILL ROCKS!
