Montrose Map and Town Crest

Town crest, illustrated map and graphic design services for Montrose, a port on the east coast of Scotland famous for its saltwater basin, spectacular birdlife and sandy beaches.

I had an enthusiastic client and an absorbing brief – to modernise the historic crest, create an illustrated town map and design information panels around them.

The crest was drawn by hand in ink, with swirling lines to evoke the movement of waves. We devised a colour palate based on gorgeous photography by Kelly Hall, showing the North Sea under moody skies in petrol blue, with yellow sands and Victorian architecture hewn from red sandstone.

The artwork was also applied to posters, prints and kid’s colouring-in sheets.
